Stop & Look & See

The little boy
picks the little violets
and puts them in a cup
where they will die
within a

The mother
smiles and says
"Oh thank you,
dear!" and
sniffs death's
pollinated breath
while it is still beautiful
and still

reassuring the boy
that killing things
is a good

and the flower droops
while the day winks
behind a cloud
and God blows
